Welcome to the Sligo Camino, we hope you have a great day in the countryside. Your safety is our number one concern so please take note of the following points.

  • On this self-guided walk you will be following the yellow walker signs on the timber posts and sign posts. You’ll see them every few hundred metres but keep an eye out for one another and stick to the waymarked trail.

  • We expect all walkers to “leave no trace” and to follow the country code - please stick to the waymarked trail. Leave no litter behind, even biodegradable items. There will be bins at the food stops along the way.

  • Do not approach animals in fields. Leave gates as you found them & use stiles where provided.

  • Road crossings: As you leave Slishwood you must wait until marshals guide groups of walkers along the road. Please be careful on the road as you enter Union Wood and on the ½ mile of busy road outside Collooney. Our marshals will be there to slow the traffic but there is no substitute for using your own common sense and watching out for vehicles.

  • Keep back from open water at the rivers and lakes en route. The edge of the bank can give way and none of our marshals are lifeguards!

  • Walkers always encourage and support one another but, if you cannot continue and want a lift back to Coolaney, make contact with one of our walk leaders, a marshal or our sweep up car. We have Sligo Order of Malta on duty in case of accident or emergency.
  • If you do leave the walk and aren’t coming back to the Community Centre, you must notify Michelle on 086 384 0433. If we don’t hear from you, we’ll be calling the emergency contact number you gave us. We don’t want to alarm people unnecessarily so please call Michelle if you drop out.
  • If you follow these tips we should see you back here, in almost as good shape as you are now, in about 7 hours for a nice hot dinner. Enjoy the scenery, enjoy the company and enjoy the Sligo Camino.
