Welcome to the Sligo Camino, we hope you have a great day in the countryside. Your safety is our number one concern so please take note of the following points.

  • On this self-guided walk, you will be following the yellow walker signs on the timber posts or the Sligo Camino signs. You’ll see them every few hundred metres but keep an eye out for one another and stick to the waymarked trail.

  • We expect all walkers to “leave no trace” and to follow the country code - leave no litter behind, even biodegradable items. There will be bins at the food stops along the way.
  •
  • Do not approach animals in fields. Leave gates as you found them & use stiles where provided.
  •
  • Road crossings: Since 2023 there is a new road crossing at Slishwood as you leave the picnic area so pay attention to the signage.  You must wait at the road until marshals guide groups of walkers across at this busy stretch.
  • Be careful as you cross the road at Union Wood and on the ½ mile of busy road outside Collooney. Marshals will be there to slow the traffic but walkers must use their common sense and watch out for vehicles.

  • Keep back from open water and do not enter any of the rivers or lakes.
  •
  • Walkers always encourage and support one another but, if you cannot continue and want a lift back to Coolaney, make contact with our sweep up car. We have Sligo Civil Defence on duty in case of accident or emergency. See Camino Passport for numbers.
